In We’re Doomed!, players only have 15 minutes to escape this doomed planet by contributing resources to build a rocket ship; however, there are limited seats available to escape! The players play as different world leaders with special abilities, such as gaining 3 resources as the Technocracy or gaining 2 Influence tokens as the Theocracy. Resources can be contributed to the group project, as in building seats for the rocket ship to escape, or can be spent for special actions such as invading another nation or using nukes on another nation. 

During the “Contribution Phase” of the game, players can decide how many resources, if any, they wish to contribute to the rocket. Whoever adds the most resources is able to draw an Event card. The Event card could be read aloud to affect the whole group, but some are meant to be read in secret and can be used at a different time during the game. Some Event cards are meant to be time-wasters, so you have to be quick! After the Contribution Phase is the “Take Action Phase,” where players can decide if they want to take any actions, such as the aforementioned invading or using nukes. Players can also decide to instead gather resources or Influence tokens. Influence tokens are the deciding factor of who gets to be on the rocket ship and escape the doomed planet if there are not enough resources, or seats, on the ship for all world leaders to board the ship. Some actions or Event cards will allow players to cause other players to lose Influence, lose the ability to take certain actions, or gain Influence or resources based on what kind of world leader they are.

We’re Doomed! is an easy-to-learn, panic-inducing party game. This is a fun game for any game night group of 4-10 people at the end of the world. Since We’re Doomed! is a quick, timed game, it’s a game that can easily be added into the board game rotation for board game night, or it can be played as a quick palette cleanser in between some heavy strategy games.
